Beautiful additions to your furniture
Big Ken (the Kentia Palm) is a tough lad who won't be phased by difficult growing conditions. He quite enjoys a bit of shade and because he has long leaves that grow from a narrow base, he's great for filling a corner without taking up much floor-space. Place him in front of a blank wall, and his arching fronds will cast beautiful shadows.
We don’t believe in plants being fashionable - they’re all classics - but the fiddle-leaf fig is definitely having ‘a moment’. Fidel the fiddle-leaf fig will give your space that tropical look with his lyre-shaped leaves. But don’t be fooled by his pretty face: Fidel is a tough guy who can cope with less-than-perfect conditions.
This plant’s latin name, monstera deliciosa, translates as - you’ve probably worked this out - ‘delicious monster’. And isn’t he just. With his gorgeous foliage, Chaz is a real statement piece, wherever you put it. A perfect addition to any living room.
Shade-loving greenery
Howard the Aspidistra is a seriously tough guy. Nicknamed the ‘cast iron plant’, this super-plant is nearly indestructible and can handle reasonable neglect. But don’t let him waste away: his impressive form brightens up any space.
Cassie, our ZZ plant, is as tough as they come. She’s not fussy and can store water for a long time, meaning she won’t mind if you forget to give her a drink every now and then. If you like a plant that’s sculptural and easygoing, Cassie’s your girl.
It’s pretty plain to see how Zabrina, the elephant ear plant got her name. Her great big leaves are the exact shape of, if not quite the size of, elephant’s ears. Just as striking are her zebra-striped stems. The combination makes her the perfect eye-catching, sculptural addition to your living room.
Sun lovers to inspire
One of our favourites at Patch, Nicolau, the strelitzia, is the perfect statement piece. In the wild, he grows on hot, coastal parts of Africa and Mexico, so will love to bask in full sun in your bright living room corner.
Rick, one of our corn plants (or Dracaena fragrans), is an impressive indoor plant who thrives on minimal attention. With just a bit of care, he’ll grow tall and strong — and can even sprout small, white flowers if you’re very lucky. Perfect to brighten up a dark corner.
Felicity might originally come from the rainforest, but she will fit right in, in your urban jungle. With a good amount of light, she will thrive and blossom. As one of our most striking houseplants, she had to make our list for living room blooms.
